Why is Left 4 Dead rated 18 rather than 15?

Basically my brother wants it for Xmas but my parents are unsure because its an 18. Could someone please describe what you think pushes the game into the 18 category. I know it's gonna be gory but somehow zombie gore in videogames isn't too bad IMO.
